Embarking on the journey of writing my thesis has been both challenging and rewarding. My research, focusing on the pivotal role of IT consultants in cloud migration, has allowed me to delve deeply into the intricacies of cloud computing and the invaluable contributions of these professionals.
Initial Steps and Research
The journey began with extensive reading and gathering resources on cloud computing and cloud migration. This foundational step was crucial for building a robust knowledge base. I immersed myself in various articles, books, and online resources, which provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the topic. This initial phase was both enlightening and overwhelming, as the vast amount of information needed to be meticulously analyzed and synthesized.
Identifying the Research Question
The next phase involved formulating the core research question: Why are IT consultants essential during cloud migration projects? This question guided the entire thesis and framed my investigation. I aimed to understand the necessity of consultants and their impact on the success of cloud migration projects, exploring why companies can’t simply rely on direct subscriptions with cloud service providers.
Engaging with Experts
One of the most insightful parts of my journey was interviewing cloud consultants from Arxus, my internship company. These interviews provided firsthand insights into the practical challenges and solutions encountered in cloud migration. I am deeply grateful to my fellow consultants who generously shared their experiences and expertise. Their contributions were invaluable in highlighting the complex roles that consultants play, from strategic planning to implementation and post-migration support.
Practical Experiment
To further support my thesis, I conducted a practical experiment comparing the cloud migration efforts of an inexperienced user with those of a seasoned consultant. This hands-on approach underscored the stark differences in outcomes and emphasized the expertise required for successful cloud migration. The experiment vividly demonstrated the critical value of IT consultants, reinforcing the theoretical findings with practical evidence.
Overcoming Challenges
Throughout this journey, I faced numerous challenges, including synthesizing vast amounts of information, coordinating interviews, and ensuring the accuracy and relevance of my findings. However, these obstacles also provided opportunities for growth and learning. The support of my mentors, Jen C and Cédrique F, and my coach, Thijs M, was instrumental in navigating these challenges.
