On Wednesday, May 22nd, my friend Guust and I had the pleasure of returning to his former high school, Athena Heule in Kortrijk, to give a presentation to the senior students about studying IT at Howest. Our mission was to inspire and inform these young minds about the exciting opportunities that await them in the field of technology.

We started by introducing the various programs available at Howest’s campuses in Bruges and Kortrijk. Howest offers a broad spectrum of IT-related courses, such as game design, applied informatics, network management, and digital arts, to name just a few. Each program is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the ever-evolving tech industry. Whether they are interested in creating immersive gaming experiences, managing complex networks, or expressing creativity through digital media, Howest has something to offer.

To make our session more engaging, we concluded with an interactive workshop on Vue.js. Vue.js is a progressive JavaScript framework used for building user interfaces. It is designed to be incrementally adoptable, meaning it can easily integrate into projects step-by-step or be used to build complex single-page applications from the ground up. Vue.js is known for its simplicity and flexibility, making it an excellent tool for both beginners and experienced developers.

During the workshop, the students had the opportunity to dive into coding and create their own minimalistic yet visually appealing websites. We guided them through the basics of Vue.js, showing them how to build and style components, manage state, and handle user interactions.

The students were enthusiastic and eager to learn, and it was incredibly rewarding to see their excitement as they brought their web projects to life. This hands-on experience not only gave them a taste of what it’s like to work with modern web technologies but also demonstrated the practical applications of what they could learn at Howest.

Our visit to Athena Heule was a fantastic experience. We hope we succeeded in inspiring some of these bright students to pursue a future in IT and perhaps consider joining the Howest community. The world of technology is full of possibilities, and we are excited to see where their journeys will take them.
